The Game

With a new theme and format
for each new issue, Visionaire stretches the imagination and boundaries of
what an art and fashion publication can be. Issue #30: The Game takes as its
inspiration the Louis Vuitton Cup, the qualifying round of sailboat races
for the America's Cup, and the first major competition of the new
millennium. Mirroring the Cup's format of entrants from seven different
countries, Visionaire assembled 'teams' of artists, photographers, and image
makers to represent each of the Cup's participating countries. Accordingly
there are seven different versions of this issue, one per country. Each
version comes in the form of a puzzle: sixteen cubes when placed in the
correct configuration form one of the six different images. The cubes along
with a book of all forty-two images are packaged inside a silk-screened
Lucite case created by Louis Vuitton. Among the participating artists are:
for the USA, Alex Katz, Nan Goldin, Mary Ellen Mark, Steven Klein, David
LaChapelle, and Elizabeth Peyton; for Australia, Tracey Moffatt; for France,
Serge Lutens and Karl Lagerfeld; for Italy, Maurizio Catalan and Francesco
Clemente; for Japan, Syd Mead and Takashi Murakami; for Spain, Pedro
Almodovar and Juan Gatti; and for Switzerland, Raymond Meier, Pipilotti Rist,
and Francois Berthoud.
Described as the "couture version of magazines," this highly collectible
publication-as-art-object pulls together the design, fashion, and art
world's most important image makers. |

Visionaire #31 will focus on the color

With a new theme and format for each
issue, "Visionaire" stretches the imagination and boundaries of what an art
and fashion publication can be. For "Visionaire #32: Where?" a full
process is created to get to the natural leather travel guide by
Hermes inside. First is a black box with Visonaire 32 on it then inside this
is a Hermes Box which then holds inside it a Hermes Bag which holds the
leather guide within it. Then inside the leather guide is 50 postcards
depicting the magical imaginative location of Where? made from the likes of
photographers Martio Testino, Peter Lindburgh, Bruce Weber, illustrator Mats
Gustafson, art director Fabien Baron, artist Nan Goldin, Wolfgang Tillmans,
Oliver Wasow, Jeff Burton, Lauren Greenfield, filmmaker Pedro Almodovar,
fashion designer Hussein Chalayan, musician Micheal Stipe and many more.
Alongside the 50 postcards is also a Hermes Pencil. A brilliant publication. |
