EDITORIAL
THE SLEUTHSAYER

Seventy years ago, Lee De Forest—the American inventor known as the "Father of the Radio"—predicted: "While theoretically and technically television maybe feasible, commercially and financially I consider it an impossibility, a development of which we need waste little time dreaming."
Ten years ago, we'd never have dreamedthat CELEBRITY SLEUTH—which some thought "commercially and financially impossible"—would be celebrating a decade of dishabille discoveries and putting our ninth "Tele•Visions" tribute {Volume 10, Number 1} to bed!
"This fall's bumper crop of 42 new prime-time series is the largest in nearly 40 years," TV Guide wrote last September, "but how many will last?" SLEUTH certainly has but—to borrow from today's top series that have also flourished—we recognize the value of FRIENDS like you who have supported THE SINGLE GUY In his 20/20 pursuit of THE NAKED TRUTH about AMERICA'S MOST WANTED beauties. IF NOT FOR YOU, there'd be many more UNSOLVED MYSTERIES of the bare and the rare. It's almost like we've been TOUCHED BY AN ANGEL.
This Tenth Anniversary issue begins by "Makin' Waves" with the most popular show on the planet, Baywatch—which Late Night host Conan O'Brien recently noted "is looking to cast ethnically diverse actresses. In fact, David Hasselhoff was recently overheard asking people, 'What's the Spanish word for implants?" Next comes an especially satisfying selection of "Hard to Get" series stars for whom we've been sleuthing since the magazine began! Our "Gifts of Gab" section uncovers Talk Show•Offs...which reminds Sleuth that the first names of today's hosts with the most {Geraldo, Montel, Ricki, Jenny, Leeza, Sally, Oprah, Gordon, Jerry, Phil, Maury and Rolanda} can be remembered, in order, via this useful mnemonic device that forms the quintessential talk show topic: Give Me Really Juicy, Lurid Stories Of Gender-Jumping Prostitutes Marrying Relatives."
Our anniversary album concludes with an arresting array of "Police Sirens"—recalling the words of noted crime author Joseph [Police Story) Wambaugh: "In the testosterone-charged macho world of law and order, there are a few weapons that those with two X chromosomes possess that the XYs do not." Thanks to you all from one Y-Guy who STILL knows how to book 'em...
TENaciously,
