EDITORIAL NOTE
Welcome to the May issue of Adult Cinema Review! I'm getting ready for a hot spring
and a ton of new video releases. The girls and the videos just keep getting better
and better, not to mention hotter, and there seems to be no limit to the beautiful
bodies and faces in the Adult Film Industry these days, or to the fine new directors.
You can see some of these bodies in this issue, along with reviews of some of
the hottest new videos. My congratulations to VCA for our Film Of The Month, Cafe
Flesh 2, a supersonic sex bomb video.
My biggest disappointment so far this year was Boogie Nights. It was a great idea,
and Burt Reynolds and Markie Mark were terrific, but the story was a porn stew
with everything badly mixed in. Not once did they mention any problems with the
law, which was a pain in the ass in those days, as anyone could be arrested at
any time. The most accurate scene was the drug scene with firecrackers popping
on Mulholland Drive. That was well acted, well done and intense. Shout Out to
Nina Hartley, Veronica Hart and Little Cinderella who had memorable parts in the
film; and let's give credit for the week they shot at Star World Studios in North
Hollywood, which is Rob Spallone's place of business.
One good thing, though - Boogie Nights did bring back memories of some good old
parties. Parties with some old friends who have birthdays in April and May. I
remember shooting Tommy Byron's (April 4) first nude Polaroid, and I produced
and directed Robin Byrd's (April 6) first cable show in Manhattan fifteen or sixteen
years ago. I knew Seka (April 15) in the early days, and I shot her only sex scene
with the fabulous Vanessa Del Rio, and I remember Paul Thomas (April 17) from
twenty-five years ago, when he used to fly from New York to San Francisco to shoot
16mm loops with Don Fernando (April 17).
Another old friend, who I used to shoot twenty years ago, whose hair is as gray
as mine, is that good old boy, Jamie Gillis (April 20), who also shares my birthday.
Richard Nasty (April 26) still has his English accent, but Patty Plenty (April
28) is no longer a 36C, like she was when I first knew her. And then there's my
good friend, T. T. Boy - Mr. R. from Brooklyn, who I've known since the day he
started.
Celebrating birthdays in May are friends like Debi Diamond (May 1), Susie Vegas
(May 7), and Peter Al North, a friend of eighteen years. Jerry Butler (May 13),
where are you now? And then there's that old race car driver, who I helped start
in this business, producer/ director/distributor Peter Davy (May 16) at Nitro.
And I mustn't forget one of the reliable old timers, a hard working son of a gun
who always gave all she had, Miss Lois Ayres (May 24). It was good to see Herschel
Savage in a cameo film appearance as a policeman, still alive and kicking, and
still betting on sports - has anyone sighted Richard Pacheco or Danielle Martin
recently? If so, write and tell me. Keep those letters coming in.
