Temple of Artemis at Epheseus ProductsOne of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, the Temple of Artemis at Ephesus weathered an extremely volatile history. From the original build date in 6th Century BC to the final time it was destroyed (262 AD by the Goths), several events prompted concurrent periods of destruction and rebuilding. The temple was a prominent and visually dominating tribute to religious symbolism. Because of this, intervening doctrines, fame-seekers and other dissidents contributed to its demise on several occassions. It is sometimes referred to more succinctly as the Artemesium or the Artemision. |
