Formerly called Zaire, and not to be confused with (The Republic of Congo) - to its immediate west, the country is now officially named The Democratic Republic of Congo. As one of Africa's largest countries, its covered by the many tributaries of the Congo River. Population is 51 million people. The capital city is Kinshasa, the currency is the New Zaire and the official language is French.

The climate is tropical and humid. From the mountains of the east and south, to the rain forests of the west, rainfall is abundant. In much of the country, rivers still provide the best form of transportation and daily communications. The major economic strengths are mineral based, with copper and diamonds the significant exports.
