Australia/Oceania
Tahiti and Moorea, are located in the Society Islands, a small, but famous part of French Polynesia, an overseas territory of France. A territory that includes hundreds of islands and coral atolls located some 2,650 miles south-southeast of Hawaii. The capital city is Papeete, the currency is the French Pacific Franc and the official languages are French and Tahitian. Population exceeds 160,000, with most living in and around Papeete.

The climate is tropical, (some say perfect), with a brief summer rainy season in April. Natural beauty exists at every turn, with numerous volcanic peaks, lush, green valleys and tranquil lagoons. The pace in Papeete is big city like, with traffic jams, trendy shops and an international mix of culture and tourists.

Twelve miles west is Moorea, an island that James A. Michener described as “A monument to the prodigal beauty of nature.” Known for its ragged and spectacular mountains, many worldwide travelers consider it to be the ultimate destination. No visitor to French Polynesia should miss going to Moorea.
