Facts/Figures/Flag

Australia/Oceania
Saipan and Tinian are the two largest islands in the U.S. Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands. Most of the tourism, local points-of- interest and hotels are found along the western coast of Saipan. The local currency is the U.S. Dollar and the most common languages are English, Carolinian and Chamorro.

Remnants of World War II are prevalant, and visitors to Suicide and Banzai Cliffs share in poignant memories of that tragic war. Managaha Island, a very popular water sport site, is home to the remains of numerous instruments of the war, including planes, barges and landing craft. Ideal snorkeling conditions exist.

Tinian, just a few miles south of Saipan. was formerly a large and successful producer of sugarcane. Today the island is quiet, tranquil and a great place to relax. However, Tinian was the site where an atomic bomb was loaded aboard the Enola Gay, a bomb later dropped on Hiroshima, Japan, in August of 1945. San Jose is the main village, with a smattering of hotels.

Aguijan is uninhabited.
