Island Details

Status and History Moorea is the neighbor island of Tahiti and an important part of French Polynesia, a French overseas possession, claimed in 1843. Settled by the Polynesians in 850, it's part of the Society Islands, so named by Captain Cook in 1769

Tropical conditions with some rainfall in the summer months (November - April). Ideal conditions exist from May - October as trade winds cool the island

General Information Commonly reached by ferry from Tahiti, the author, James Michener described Moorea by saying, "It's a monument to the prodical beauty of nature." Enough said!
