Manitoba Details
dot
Description: First visited by the Europeans in the 17th century, it was later explored and fortified by both the British and French. Acquired by Canada in the late 1860s it became a province in 1870. Known by sportsmen as the "Province of Lakes," the largest being Lake Winnepeg, larger than Lake Ontario of Great Lakes fame, Manitoba is mostly a flat area, with some hills and small mountains in the southwest. Winnipeg, the capital, is the only major city.
