NOTES: After being led out of Egypt by Moses into the land of Palestine, Hebrew tribes, decendents of the 12 sons of Jacob settled, and later formed the Northern Kingdom of Israel. Centuries passed, and then (by decree) on May 14, 1948 in an agreed to partition of Palestine between Jews and Arabs, and as recommended by a special committee of the United Nations in 1947, the official State of Israel was formed. Today the Gaza Strip and West Bank (shown on map) are Israeli occupied, and status of same are subject to on-going Israeli-Palestinian agreements, and subject to change based on future negotiations. The Golan Height's area is in dispute with Syria.
