As an (overseas department) of France, Guadeloupe is a series of islands, with two main ones connected by a drawbridge. Basse-Terre is mountainous with tropical rain forests and an active volcano, while Grande-Terre is low and agricultural based. The capital city is Basse-Terre City, the currency is the French franc, the official language is French and the population is 420,000. It's an extremely popular tourist destination because of spectacular scenery and perfect weather.
