Landforms The mountains and plateaus of the far north are known as the Guyana Highlands and they stretch into Venezuela, Guyana, Suriname and French Guiana. In the west, lowlands (swamps) border Bolivia and northern Paraguay. The great Amazon Basin spreads across most of north, including the Amazon River and its more than 1,000 significant tributaries. The Brazilian Highlands cover the balance of land, with lower mountain ranges paralleling the southeastern coast.
