Angola is located on the southwestern coast of Africa and is home to 11.5 million people. The capital city is Luanda, the currency is the Readadjusted Kwanza and the official language is Portuguese.

The overall climate is mild to hot, though cooler along the coast. The lowlands of the west rise abruptly to a vast interior plateau.

Civil war is a constant reality in the country. Although blessed with some of the greatest oil deposits on the continent of Africa, output per capita is still among the world's lowest. Other resources include gold, diamonds, extensive forests, Atlantic fisheries, and useable farm land.
